I heard great reviews on both books and to me, it didn't matter which book I got because they would work the same anyway. It is an okay story, but it isn't great. From then on, whenever I asked a question of my office mate, he stared into space searching for an answer, and then he replied, "Read Walker." In my opinion, it is the single most important book you can read if you want to become an algebraic geometer, or if you want to understand what an algebraic geometer is talking about. I teach introductory Excel courses as well as more advanced Excel applications.
